How Often Should You Email Your Furniture Customer List?

Short answer: less than you think, but more targeted than you're doing now. Frequency is the wrong question — segmentation is the right one.

Most independent furniture showrooms fall into one of two traps. Either they email nobody — the list sits untouched in a CRM or spreadsheet, built up over years and never used again after the sale. Or they overcorrect: a discount blast every week, training the list to wait for the next 20%-off email instead of buying at full price.

Both approaches lose money. Here's what actually works.

Furniture isn't a weekly-purchase category

Someone who bought a sofa 18 months ago isn't in the market for another one next week. Furniture has one of the longest buying cycles in retail — most households replace a given piece every 5-10 years, and a single purchase (kitchen, living room, bedroom) often triggers a wave of related buying over the following 12-24 months as the rest of the room gets updated to match.

That means weekly generic emails to your whole list are wasted on 90%+ of recipients who have no reason to buy right now — and every irrelevant email erodes your open rates, trains people to ignore you, and slowly kills your sender reputation with inbox providers.

The question isn't "how often" — it's "who, and when"

The showrooms that get reactivation right aren't emailing more often. They're emailing the right slice of their list at the right moment, based on what that person actually bought and when. In practice that looks like:

Each of those segments gets a different cadence. The due-for-replacement group might hear from you once a month. Recent buyers might hear from you once in six months, if at all, before entering the mid-cycle sequence. There's no single "right frequency" — there's a right frequency per segment, and getting that wrong is why generic email marketing tools produce mediocre results for furniture retailers specifically.

What this costs you if you get it wrong

Send too often to the wrong people and you'll see rising unsubscribe rates, declining open rates, and eventually deliverability problems that hurt every email you send — including to the segments that were actually ready to buy. Send too rarely and you're leaving a list full of warm, pre-qualified buyers untouched while paying to acquire cold traffic instead.

The list you already have cost you nothing to reach again. Getting the cadence and segmentation right is the difference between that list being a dormant asset and being your highest-margin sales channel.
